Is your moving service’s quote way out of your budget? Don’t be ashamed. You’re not the only one. Moving or relocating to a new home is often a stressful ordeal. People invest in the hope of a new start in a different place. But there is a lot of uncertainty mixed in with hope. And one of the biggest concerns (after arranging your new accommodations) is moving all your belongings there. Moving to a new location shouldn’t be too hard. After all, you can easily move your Cox cable packages to a new address. Shouldn’t everything else about moving homes be just as convenient?
Charities and Low-Cost Services That Help You Move
Sadly, most aspects of moving are rarely as easy as that, changing your service delivery and billing address is one thing. But transporting a life’s worth of belongings is very different. Let’s face it. Relocating is difficult, even you employ a professional mover. You also have to contend with very high prices.
The cost of professional moving services can often seem unrealistic. But you don’t have to feel trapped at all! People run into cash flow problems all the time. Moving to a new city or state shouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket. Not if you look into some low-cost options like these:
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has lived up to its name for several decades, and it is one of the oldest charitable bodies that has been focused on poverty alleviation. The Salvation Army has a massive community outreach program and has locations in over 8,000 community spaces throughout the United States. The Salvation Army also relies heavily on volunteer workers who share the same values of empathy, kindness, and assistance as the organization itself. These 3 million people are often the only helping hand for low-income communities.
While the Salvation Army typically offers cash-based aid to low-income families facing difficult problems, it also has other programs. Several are about assisting low-income families in moving or relocating to places with better income opportunities. The organization will require some documentation from you before releasing cash aid. But these are primarily to confirm your low-income eligibility and that you are moving.
Young Women’s Christian Association
The YWCA is one of the oldest organizations centered around empowering women, countering sexism, and fighting racism. The YWCA has a long history of working to create safer spaces for women and other marginalized communities. This includes helping women escape situations where they are trapped in domestic violence or abuse, and helping them cover moving costs is an important component here.
If you know of a YWCA location near you, you should check in with them immediately. If you’re not sure where to find one, search for the nearest one on Google. The organization’s financial aid for moving is typically to help victims of domestic abuse exclusively. However, the YWCA also partners with other charity organizations. Someone at a YWCA location may be able to put you in touch with the right one.
The Modest Needs Foundation
Emerging in 2002, Modest Needs is a fairly new charity organization. But it also has a very different approach to helping low-cost families in emergencies. The charity foundation offers financial help for up to $1,000. This is usually a one-time grant for people living at the poverty line or below it. So, you can only ask for it once. But it can help low-income homes going through a crisis get immediate assistance.
You will need to prove your proximity to the poverty line, however. And the grant will only become available if you can prove it is needed for special conditions or a very pressing reason. However, this does include the need to move at short notice.
Government-Sponsored Relocation Assistance
Don’t give up hope if you cannot access any of the charities above. Several government programs could help you. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, could offer welcome relief. HUD manages a grant program to help people at risk of becoming homeless. Designed to prevent an increase in homelessness, the department could help you if you can prove you are at risk of becoming homeless. You could get into a temporary shelter or even get assistance with finding new housing and moving there.
Various other government bodies could prove worth a shot. You may be eligible for help from any of them. That includes 211 hotlines, IRS tax deductions, and even Federal relocation programs. With a little research and proving a genuine need, you should be able to find the help you need.
